Parish Council

Parish councils are a type of local authority and are involved in the delivery of services and facilities for the public in their own very local area.

Unlike other tiers of local government such as the District and County Councils they have very few statutory duties but they do have the powers to deliver real benefits to the community they serve.

A Parish Council comprises of Councillors (nine in the case of Saxlingham Nethergate), one of whom is also the chairman, and together they form the Council. In addition the council is serviced by a clerk. The Councillors are elected for a four year term, the next election will take place in May 2019.

In Saxlingham Nethergate, the Parish Council meets on the second Monday of every month except August at 7.30pm in the Millennium Room of the Village Hall.

The Parish Council is responsible for:

The village allotments

The play area at the Playing Field

The War Memorial

Street furniture such as dog bins, bus shelter, seats, notice boards etc.

In 2021 the council signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
