Bell Ringing

Calling all Campanologists!  The bells at St. Mary’s church were replaced in 2013 and are well known throughout Norfolk for their fine ringing tones. There is an active group of bell ringers at the church, and they are keen to welcome new and experienced bell ringers. Practice sessions are held every Wednesday evening.

Church - St. Mary the Virgin

Your local parish church welcomes regular worshippers and occasional visitors. Weekly service times are published in ‘Contact’. The building is open during hours of daylight for those who’d like to spend time in quiet reflection or viewing the stained glass and architecture. If you’re interested in exploring the Christian faith do let us know.

Choir

We are one of a very few rural congregations in Norfolk, or indeed England which still has a Choir to lead the worship at Sunday services. There are not many of us, but we would be delighted to welcome reinforcements! If you enjoy music and have sometimes wondered whether it would be possible to have a try at choral singing, here is your chance. We sing at the Eucharist (Holy Communion) services on the first and third Sundays of each month at 9.30am.

Sometimes our services are requested for weddings or a funeral, and it is our privilege to sing then. We don’t have regular practices but tend to try the chosen music over before a major service, such as the Christmas carol service. If you are used to singing the ‘top’ line, that we call the tune, that’s fine.

There are always more members who sing the tune than any other parts, but if you’ve sung in a choir before, and perhaps have sung the alto, tenor or bass, then you’d be especially welcome! We are at the end of the day, a group of friends who live locally and sing.

Drama Group

The Saxlingham Players are a community theatre group that were formed 75 years ago, making them one of the longest running amateur dramatic groups in the country. We put on two plays a year at the village hall and have covered many different genres and playwrights within our back catalogue. Community is at the heart of the Group, and we are always looking for new members. Acting, technical, design, directing, costumes or simply front of house we will always welcome new members who believe as we do that although we have high standards, community is key.
